Truck Year/Model/Engine: 2016 Freightliner Cascadia Detroit DD15
After idling for hours in Phoenix, AZ in 110 degree weather, my check engine light came on. So I plugged in my scanner tool from OTR Performance to see what the code was. The truck was leaking DEF and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. After hours of research, I found out that the DEF filter for the DEF Pump, could possibly be the issue. This DEF filter is different from the DPF filter, don’t get them confused. The DEF Filter has a rubber plug at the bottom that for whatever reason, it’ll pop out. Probably from wear and tear or the DEF eating it up. If it does pop out, there will be issues with the DEF pump motor speed causing this code to pop up. This DEF filter is extremely easy to replace and the part is not expensive. Don’t let these shops rob you and don’t be scared to get a little dirty. After replacing the DEF Filter, I used the scanner tool to clear the code.
