How To Replace The Batteries On A Freightliner Cascadia

Truck Year/Model/Engine: 2016 Freightliner Cascadia Detroit DD15

The batteries on my Freightliner Cascadia kept going low and I didn’t know why. I have had already had to get jump started a few times by some noble truck drivers! Shout out to those guys! So I knew I had to go to a dealership or a place that sells CMV batteries to get them replaced. Check out how fast and easy I swapped one of them in this video!

Video on how I dealt with the issue

Summary

1. Preparation and Disconnection

– Turn off the battery switch, remove the cover, and inspect for corrosion or damage before proceeding.

2. Battery Testing: Order Yours Here: https://amzn.to/3ZzbHBC

– Use a car battery tester (~$25) to identify faulty batteries. A minimum of 12V is required; the bad battery had ~6.5V.

3. Replacement Process

– Replace only the faulty battery (Group 31-5T, ~$159.99) and apply grease to terminals to prevent corrosion.

4. Reassembly and Tips

– Secure cables and components carefully, ensuring alignment before tightening. Avoid overpaying for simple maintenance tasks.

5. Cost and Warranty

– Total replacement cost was ~$180, including an 18-month warranty and refundable core charge for the old battery.
